This week’s Yorkshire appointments
JLL, David Scott, Richard Gale, Richard Bean, Laura Woodward
JLL has promoted David Scott to the role of national director while Richard Gale and Richard Bean have been promoted to associate director. Laura Woodward has been promoted to the role of senior surveyor.
David leads the Real Estate Workout business in the North East supported by Richard Gale; Richard Bean and Laura Woodward play key roles in the National Offices and Retail Management teams respectively.
Lead director of JLL’s North East region, Jeff Pearey, said; “Our success in Leeds so far this year has been driven by the superlative performances from all of our teams and I extend my thanks and congratulations to all four who been promoted.
“At the team time, we have also strengthened our valuation, healthcare and building consultancy teams by bringing in new talent.
“These excellent results confirm the value of our ongoing investment in our regional business and, as we head towards celebrating our 20th year in Leeds later this year, they position us for continued solid growth.
“The outlook for the property sector across Yorkshire continues to look extremely bright with only the spectre of low stocks in certain sectors appearing as small clouds on the horizon. “
Search Laboratory, Ari Nurmi
Leeds-based search marketing company, Search Laboratory, is looking to continue to drive its commercial growth with the appointment of new Sales and Marketing Director, Ari Nurmi.
Speaking about his recent appointment Nurmi said: “I was drawn to the role by Search Laboratory’s ambition, the leadership qualities of CEO Ian Harris, whose values and ethical approach are very similar to mine, and the culture instilled within the agency.
“My background in sales and sales management, working with various sectors across several countries, and driving commercial growth in all of my projects throughout my career at Meltwater will help me within my new role here at Search Laboratory.”
Founder of Search Laboratory, Ian Harris, added: “Our vision is to continue our growth and retain our ethics, transparency and accountable methods.
“Ari was an ideal hire for us because he fits in both culturally and ethically with what we are trying to achieve and has a proven record of success in running sales teams big and small.”
Former Commercial Director, John Readman, left Search Laboratory earlier this year to set up his own business.
Ben Bailey Homes, Andy Gladwin
Yorkshire housebuilder Ben Bailey Homes is growing its construction department with the appointment of Andy Gladwin to the role of area construction manager.
Andy will oversee three of the housebuilder’s developments across Yorkshire – Royal Forest in York, Meadowgate Park, Leeds and College Gardens in Stannington, Sheffield.
Commenting on his new role, Andy said: “Ben Bailey Homes is an ambitious company with a fantastic record of building high quality homes throughout the region.
“The latest innovative house designs have been incredibly popular with buyers and I am looking forward to helping the company to deliver its high standards of construction.”
As well as welcoming Andy to the team, Ben Bailey Homes has also promoted Aaron Stocks to the role of contracts manager.
Xamax, David Herrick
Branded clothing and sportswear specialist, Xamax, has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of a new field sales manager, who will be based at its headquarters on Roundwood Industrial Estate near Wakefield.
David Herrick said: “I very much relish the opportunity to be part of an innovative company like Xamax. It’s an exciting time to join as the business is entering into a period of planned strategic growth in which I hope to contribute significantly.
“Like the managing director of Xamax, I have a vast amount of energy and enthusiasm for the clothing industry and hope to put Wakefield on the map as the place to do business.”
Quality Context, Mark Graham
Yorkshire quality management and quality solutions providers, has continued to expand with the appointment of a new clinical manager
Quality Context, based in Sheffield, has appointed Mark Graham to oversee the expansion of their Clinical Services Division.
Mark brings to the company 27 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, overseeing clinical research and quality assurance with several industry leaders.

“We remain ambitious and hungry for further expansion and envisage creating more jobs and winning more work as we aim to grow even further. The appointment of such a highly skilled and experienced individual such as Mark as our new Clinical Manager is further evidence of our vision and ambition”.
Airedale International, Rob Rhodes
Cooling specialist, Airedale International, is pleased to welcome on board a further expert in refrigeration and air conditioning to strengthen its commercial team.
Rob Rhodes joins Airedale as area sales engineer for the North West alongside Paul Golding who has covered the area for 14 years. The two will provide customers in the North West with many years’ combined experience in process cooling and data centre applications.
Jonathan Jones who was promoted to Northern Area Sales Manager earlier this year. Jonathan said: “We are delighted to welcome Rob to Airedale. His extensive background across a wide range of solutions including air handling units and strong project management skills are a perfect fit with the team and, armed with his hefty dose of humour.
“I’m convinced our partners and customers in the North West will find him a great addition to the team and pleasure to deal with.”
Carter Jonas (York) Dan Taylor
Property consultancy Carter Jonas, the principal manager of rural estates in Yorkshire, has promoted senior associate Dan Taylor within its expanding rural land and business team.
Dan has been made partner of the firm’s rural division based in York.
Dan said: “It is very exciting to have become a partner at Carter Jonas. I’m looking forward to taking on this new challenge and working with my fellow partners to help build the division further and continue serving the needs of our wide and diverse client base.”
Andrew Fallows, partner at Carter Jonas, said: “Dan’s promotion comes at a time when we’ve made a number of new appointments to further strengthen our successful land and farm agency team in Yorkshire enabling us to offer clients a broader range of services, including consultancy on planning matters, strategic land and renewable energy.”
Vital Network Solutions, Sam Wood
Outsourced IT management provider Vital Network Solutions has taken on a new apprentice within its technical services department.
Sam Wood joins the Knaresborough-based company, which was a finalist in this year’s Microsoft Apprentice of the Year Employer Awards, as an IT support apprentice.
Lee Evans, Vital Network Solutions’ managing director, said: “Apprenticeships have been a great success here at Vital, both for us and for those employees who have come through the programme.
“We view them as the best route into a career in our industry, providing valuable experience and the industry professional qualifications that matter to us as an employer.”
Sam said: “I’m really passionate about a career in IT and joining Vital Network Solutions means I’ll get real practical on the job training as well as academic qualifications which is something that I wouldn’t have had if I’d gone down the traditional route of university.”
Cornerstones Education, Ruth Linden
A former teacher who ran her own business for 14 years has been recruited by Barnsley-based creative curriculum suppliers, Cornerstones Education.
Ruth Linden has been appointed to a newly-created post. She becomes the sixth member of the company’s growing team of schools consultants who travel the country liaising with primary schools about Cornerstones’ teaching and learning materials.
Ruth said: “I have a passion for both business and learning and believe it is so important for children to develop key skills for life and work during their education.
“What I love about the Cornerstones curriculum is the way it develops children as autonomous learners right from primary school age; giving them the confidence to think for themselves, use their imagination, innovate and ask questions.
Property consultants JLL has announced four promotions and the recruitment of three members of staff to its North East business based at City Point in Leeds.
Kings Chambers, Adam Aldred
Yorkshire-based barristers, Kings Chambers, is delighted to announce that Adam Aldred, formerly of Addleshaw Goddard has accepted an invitation to join chambers.
Adam specialises in EU and competition law, including cartels, dominance, mergers, market investigations, litigation, trading agreements and compliance.
Colin Griffin, Chief Clerk said: “Adam joining chambers is a tremendous coup for Kings and a great testament to our reputation as one of the country’s leading sets.
“Adam joining allows us to offer services from a leading practitioner in a new specialist area for chambers. We are delighted that Adam has chosen Kings.”

Knight Frank (Leeds) Richard Hunter
The Leeds office of global property consultancy Knight Frank has strengthened its valuation team with the appointment of Richard Hunter.
Richard, aged 29, joins from DTZ in Leeds, where he spent two years in their Valuation Services division. He has also worked for Yorkshire chartered surveyors Grice and Hunter.
Richard was educated at Worksop College, Nottinghamshire, and Sheffield Hallam University, where he gained a degree in Urban Land Economics.
Richard commented: “I moved to Knight Frank because they are such a well-regarded firm both locally and nationally. This was an excellent chance to join their strong Yorkshire valuation team and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”
