NE high level specialists gain top level accreditations
Training and development are top of the agenda for a North East building restoration, repair and maintenance business with staff working towards a number of new industry accreditations.
Darlington based Stone Technical Services Group (STS) are experts in the fields of high level, historic and general maintenance and are one of the UK’s most accredited contractors in their field counting prestigious names such as St Paul’s Cathedral, the Royal Courts of Justice and Lumley Castle amongst their extensive client base.
However, as part of its commitment to constantly investing in its workforce and ensuring its team is always at the forefront of industry developments, STS staff have recently undertaken a range of training courses.
As well as a host of in-house, industry-standard courses in manual-handling and various heritage skills, several members of staff from the conservation and restoration division have completed National Heritage Ironwork Group (NHIG) accreditation training to help them understand the latest developments in iron and other building materials to enable them to efficiently guide clients through the best restoration processes.
The NHIG accreditation is endorsed by top industry bodies including the Institute of Conservation (ICon) which praises it for its best practice relating to historic decorative forged ironwork and conservation principles.
In addition, a number of STS’s steeplejacks have recently completed height access qualifications through the CITB and one of the company’s masons, Darron Deighton, is working towards his NVQ in heritage skills training.
And STS also recently gained ISO14001 Environmental Management accreditation to help it reduce waste and costs using appropriate environmental measures.
MD of STS, Dave Stone, said: “It’s vital that people in our sector keep ahead of the game- industry standards are constantly being updated and it’s so important that organisations always look for approved and accredited contractors. Here at STS the continual development of professional standards is a top priority, not just because it is a legality, but also for the standards of quality that we deliver to our clients.”
