Pub landlord intent on expansion

A Pub landlord has created a function room by investing in a Gala Tent Marquee to boost sales after decline in wet sales over the last few years. The Plough Inn in West Melton, Rotherham, is now experiencing growth in business offering to host functions under the new legislation available to pubs and clubs.

The government have agreed to consider allowing groups to conduct legally binding ceremonies outdoors across England and Wales. Humanist groups are seeking a change in marriage law, which would give non-religious wedding ceremonies legal status. This is already the case in Scotland, where over 2,500 humanist weddings are successfully held every year.

With this in mind, Landlord Mick Rose and wife Jean have invested in a 16mx6m Gala Tent, which can easily cater for over 100 guests set in their beautiful gardens. With bookings for weddings, birthdays and anniversaries, they are already booked up for the most of 2014 and into 2015. Thanks to the new marquee, the Plough is able to offer a function room, and has a new source of income, which has made the future of the pub stable after waning drink sales over the past few years.

The Plough Inn now has a fantastic outdoor covered area in their gardens with it’s own private access and own private smoking area. The Marquee also comes with a stage, lighting and sound, making it perfect for weddings or any private function or special occasion.

Jason Mace, Managing Director of Gala Tent, one of the UK’s largest designers and manufacturers of marquees, gazebos and accessories, said: “Many pubs are already reaping the benefit of a lucrative income stream by hosting wedding receptions in marquees and gazebos in their grounds. If this new legislation is passed then it could open up huge possibilities for pubs to host both the wedding ceremony and the reception on their premises. This would help to cut down costs and provide greater convenience to the couple planning the wedding, whilst increasing business for the pub.”
