Keepmoat secures first new build contract in Wales

Housing and regeneration specialist Keepmoat has secured its first new build contract in Wales to build a 40-apartment Extra Care scheme.

Work on the new £5.7m housing scheme for older and vulnerable people will get underway this summer at Talbot Green, in Rhondda Cynon Taff, South Wales.

The development, being built in partnership with Hafod Care Association is situated on a brownfield site previously owned by Rhondda Cynon Taff (RCT) Borough Council. The apartments are expected to be completed by summer 2016.

This is the first Extra Care development in RCT and a landmark scheme for Keepmoat which has delivered more than £500m of Extra Care new build accommodation across the UK.

Hafod Care is an established and experienced developer and manager of Extra Care provision in South Wales and part of the Hendre Group of Housing Associations which have been working for the people of Wales since 1968.

The development will feature a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, offering independent living for the over 55s. The complex will also boast a range of additional facilities and on site health and care support including a restaurant, IT suite, lounge, library, craft room and a hair and beauty salon.

Keepmoat Regional Director for the West Midlands & South Wales, Neil Baxter, said: “This is an important scheme for Keepmoat; our strategy for growing our business in South Wales is focussed on working with local suppliers and subcontractors wherever possible and maximising training opportunities.
