Borland Updates Silk Portfolio – Focusing on Choice, Visibility and Performance Across all Testing Assets
New release harnesses the power of the cloud to load test internal applications behind the firewall
To meet the demands of today’s mobile workforce, enterprise organizations continue to make their applications remotely available for employee access through a virtual private network (VPN). Typically, these internal applications that often underpin and run a business are difficult to load test because they sit behind the company firewall. To address this challenge, Borland, a Micro Focus company (LSE: MCRO.L), today announced updates to the Borland Silk Portfolio - a comprehensive set of quality and performance tools for desktop, web, cloud and mobile – which includes cloud-based load testing for internal applications.
Building on a proven technology foundation set, the Silk Portfolio updates also include automatic detection and suggested resolutions to optimize slow web pages via Google PageSpeed integration with Silk Performer.
To solve the complex challenge of keeping pace with an ever growing variety of browsers and devices, Silk Central Connect has introduced new features to deliver true cross browser testing across web and mobile web applications. This release extends support to include Safari on iOS, meaning Silk Central Connect now provides cover for over 95% of all market browsers. Borland customers can also embrace HTML5, web and mobile development and quickly test across a variety of platforms without costly hardware or configuration set ups. With pre-configured Amazon images that support Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer, Silk Central Connect initializes the configurations and executes the tests for fast and easy cross browser configuration testing.
To address the challenge of cloud-to-cloud based application performance testing, Silk Performer CloudBurst has extended its support to include Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure in addition to Amazon Web Services. Now customers have a choice of providers and can ensure performance and a smooth customer experience across both platforms.
“Borland’s mission is to help customers validate quality across any device and any application running on any infrastructure. In today’s era of consumer choice, quality is much more than just functionality. It involves validating that applications work, perform, have a strong user experience, and ultimately fulfil the strategic needs of the end customer,” said Archie Roboostoff, Borland Solutions Portfolio Director at Micro Focus. “The latest updates to our portfolio continue to address the new notion of quality while eliminating the pains our customers feel as they struggle to keep pace with continuous market challenges and end user demands.”
Specific Silk Portfolio updates include:
• Silk Performer CloudBurst – VPN tunnelling functionality has been added, enabling powerful cloud-based load testing of internal applications behind the firewall without the burden of costly setup and hardware. Support for Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, as well as Amazon Web Services (AWS) has also been added, providing more choice and scalability for customers. It allows customers to load test cloud-based applications from a separate cloud platform. Customers can also simulate users from 14 different global locations to truly understand a global customer experience without requiring the infrastructure or setup complexity.
• Silk Performer – Performance testing for web and mobile applications now integrates Google PageSpeed, enabling automatic detection of slow web pages and providing a resolution in plain English to help customers optimize their web applications.
• Silk Central Connect – Cloud-based cross browser testing infrastructure for web and mobile web applications has been extended to include Safari on iOS, providing cover for over 95% of all market browsers. All testing is done on genuine versions of mobile and web browsers, nothing is simulated.
• Silk Central – New support added for Git source code management, the popular distributed version control system. Customers are now able to validate code to test runs and ensure visibility across all quality stakeholders in Git.
The Silk Portfolio end-to-end quality solution helps development organizations manage the uncertainties and risk brought about by new technology platforms, multiple devices and network speeds, and the increasing pace of product deliveries, all while ensuring the new notion of quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
