Plans submitted for new Cheshire distribution hub development

Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL) has just submitted a ‘Reserved Matters’ planning application to deliver business space for the next new occupier at Omega South and hundreds more jobs to the site.

The application is for the development of 63,700sq m (c.686,000 sq ft) of logistics space at the north west corner of Omega South, which also includes warehouse space plus a two storey office development.

The new occupier, who cannot be named at this stage, but is thought to be the Hut Group, will take the logistics space, subject to planning consent, on a c.6ha (c.41 acres) plot with capacity for future expansion.

The new premises will sit within ‘Zone 7’, the section of Omega South granted ‘outline’ planning consent only three months ago (May 2014) for 2.1m sqft of logistics and manufacturing space, a new access road and a 35 acres ‘Green Heart’.

A positive decision on the planning application would mark the second development on Omega South, with premises for ASDA now well under way and due to open for business in 2015.

Skyline Drive, currently under construction for ASDA, will be extended out to Omega Boulevard and will be completed to tie in with the completion of the new building.

It is expected that a decision on this latest Reserved Matters application will be made by Warrington Borough Council over the next couple of months.
