Yorkshire sees the lowest growth in self employment in the UK

Figures released by the ONS have shown that Yorkshire is in the bottom 3 for the number of people who are self employed, and is the region that has seen the least growth in the number of self employed since 2008.

The figures showed that in 2013, 311,652 people were self employed in Yorkshire & Humberside, an increase from 289,919 people in 2008. This is the least increase in any UK region, coming in at 0.7% growth.

The results showed that self-employment in the UK is higher than at any point over past 40 years and that the rise in total employment since 2008 is predominantly among the self-employed, which is reportedly down to fewer people leaving self-employment than in the past.

The greatest increases came from London and the South East, where self employment grew a full 2% in each region.
