Growing the Humber fund aids in £310k irrigation project set to create 11 jobs

Hull-based Liquid Lever Irrigation Ltd has secured funding from the Growing the Humber programme as part of a £310k project to develop products for the horticultural sector creating 11 jobs.

Setting up the manufacturing process for drip irrigation hoses is well underway with a £138k investment from the Growing the Humber Fund towards the project total.

The sales team aims to supply Liquid Lever’s UK manufactured products to a global audience, particularly overseas in dryland countries.

Liquid Lever Irrigation has already established a number of demonstration sites in and around Nairobi, Kenya and the next stage of the project will be to develop trading links in East Africa.

Mike Brown, managing director of Liquid Lever Irrigation, said: “Added to our own significant investment of time and money the grant will help us to make the transition to a solidly based manufacturing company, with a unique portfolio of intellectual property that will allow us to keep ahead of the competition for perhaps a decade or more.

“We are also pleased to be able to support poor dryland communities through our charity. There is potential for our charity to grow as we do and to work with a number of other charities in the region and throughout Africa.

Almost 100 businesses are now in contract using £15.5 million of Growing The Humber money leveraging £82.5 million private investment and creating an estimated 1,300 jobs.
