Teesside recycling company joins forces with North Yorkshire colleges
J & B Recycling has won contracts to handle waste generated at Northallerton College and its partner schools the Allertonshire and Risedale Sports and Community College in Catterick Garrison.
The Teesside business already manages waste for a number of educational establishments across the North East including Middlesbrough College, Hartlepool College of Further Education and Cleveland College of Art and Design.
The contract in Northallerton will see J & B Recycling handle approximately 150 tonnes of waste a year, which will be sorted and processed at its Hartlepool facility.
Mark Penny, Commercial Manager of J & B Recycling, said: “We are delighted to win the waste management contracts with the schools and colleges in Northallerton and Catterick Garrison.
“One of the encouraging things about working within the education sector is that the young people are already very engaged with recycling and understand the importance of collecting and sorting waste. That makes our job easier but also helps to create a welcoming environment for anyone visiting.”
“Once the contract is up and running, J & B Recycling will be looking to award the facilities its prestigious Zero Waste to Landfill accreditation, which certifies that all waste is recycled or recovered as energy.
“Once we’d met the site team at Northallerton College and built up their confidence and trust, we came up with a proposal which we felt best matched their needs as they were keen to reduce the amount of waste which ends up in landfill.”
