University of Central Lancashire works with international partners in training project

According to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), West Cumbria must be prepared to meet the demand for skilled personnel as the region increases its global reputation as a leading nuclear business cluster.

The University’s Westlakes Campus is delivering a Nuclear Criticality Safety workshop this September, in partnership with National Nuclear Laboratory, Sellafield Limited and the University of New Mexico.

The five day workshop, which is endorsed by the Nuclear Skills Passport programme, will enhance knowledge of nuclear criticality safety with a strong operational slant.

John Lonsdale, head of innovation and enterprise at UCLan, said: “West Cumbria is cementing its position as Britain’s Energy Coast. Making sure that people in West Cumbria have the skills to take advantage of the Energy Coast means there is a need for people to further develop their expertise and knowledge in this sector.

“The Nuclear Criticality Safety course at the Westlakes Campus is a key part of UCLan’s programme portfolio to support skills development in the region.”

The programme will take place from Monday 1st-5th September at UCLan’s Westlakes Campus, near Whitehaven, Cumbria.
