North East accountancy firm takes on the Coast to Coast

Accountants at Tait Walker have braved the elements in yet another bid to raise money for North East charities – this time embracing their inner Bradley Wiggins.

Staff from all three of the firm’s offices participated in the Coast 2 Coast cycle, taking on the 140 mile route and pledging to donate their sponsorship funds to a number of North East charities including Percy Hedley, Bright Red, Tiny Lives, WATBus and Teesside-based organisation, Daisy Chain.

First to take on the challenge was a team of 13 from Tait Walker’s Newcastle and Morpeth offices, who set off from Workington and finished in Tynemouth, completing the ride in just two days at the end of June.

The Tees Valley office had the girls fronting the line-up with a team of seven – five women and two men – who also completed a gruelling 140 mile challenge, journeying from Whitehaven to the Sunderland coastline, which they completed over a three day stint in July.

Tait Walker managing partner Andrew Moorby, who rode with the Tees Valley team, said: “The Coast 2 Coast challenges were a huge achievement for all of the staff involved. The participants and their colleagues showed fantastic support, especially throughout the training period.

“For some of the Tees Valley riders, this challenge saw them take up cycling for the first time and they all pursued both the company fundraising target and their own personal goals with drive and determination.

“The combined total funds raised to date sits at just over £5,000 with sponsorship money still to be collected and donations continuing to roll in. We are extremely humbled by all the support we’ve received and excited to present the money to our selection of chosen charities over the coming months.”

The firm, which has offices in Newcastle, Tees Valley and Northumberland currently employs over 145 members of staff – all of whom have been taking part in a variety of fundraising activities throughout 2014, with an assortment of ideas planned for the remainder of the year.
