London plumbers embark on major recruitment drive in the North East
Pimlico Plumbers is looking to attract experienced plumbers from the North East to overcome a skills shortage in London.
The company, which currently employs more than 170 tradespeople, is looking beyond the South East to recruit a further 100 experienced professional plumbers and heating engineers over the next 12 months.
Pimlico Plumbers, whose engineers can earn up to £100,000 a year, it is hoping to attract engineers from across the UK that are willing to relocate to the Capital.
In the period between April and July 2004 the company recorded sales of £4.7 million, a rise of 14.8% on the previous year and the busiest spring/summer period in Pimlico’s 35 year history.
Charlie Mullins, CEO of Pimlico Plumbers, said: “The growth in the economy and the returning spending confidence of businesses and consumers has seen demand for our services sore. However, the availability of skilled engineers is heading in the opposite direction.
“We’ve brought on some great people in the past 12 months, but there’s just not enough to go around, especially in the ‘top shelf’ tradespeople market that we are trading in. The short answer is the pool of available talent is shrinking by the day, as the work out there continues to rise, both in terms of our bookings and the work that’s around generally.”
He continued: “This is a great opportunity for experienced engineers from the North East looking for a new challenge, which could be very lucrative for them. Our plumbers can earn up to £100,000 a year and have the stability of working for an established and growing company. This might be attractive to engineers who may want to come to London on a temporary or permanent basis.”
