County Durham firm launches its own ‘Start Up Studio’
Digital strategists Leighton, have announced the launch Leighton LABS, a fully functioning “start-up studio”
The Houghton-le-Spring company, which has recently opened for a London office, has a long history of spinning out innovative businesses such as 4Projects and Communicator.
The start-up studio is a business creation approach which brings together everything required to build a successful tech business; the team, culture, creativity, technology and capital.
With a clear focus on R&D, innovation and the latest technology, Leighton LABS intend to create partnerships and invest in collaborative research with a number of current clients and partner organisations.
Head of Innovation for the LABS, Mark Hibbert said: “Developing ideas to change the world is a big statement, but that’s genuinely the purpose of Leighton LABS. We intend to grow some great ideas into successful businesses that challenge the status quo and change the way people think, live, and work.”
At the launch of the LABS, Leighton CEO Lyle McCalmont said: “We’re really proud to announce the arrival of Leighton LABS. We’ve put together a really talented team who will explore a whole range of topics from mobile and customer engagement to digital convergence and the utilisation of open data and beyond. As both an opportunity to create new revenue streams and add value to our offering to clients this is an exciting and significant milestone in our company development.”
