Newcastle United boss Mike Ashley bought Ibrox Stadium naming rights for just £1
Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley bought the naming rights to Rangers’ Ibrox Stadium for just £1 two years ago, according to Rangers director Sandy Easdale.
In an interview in the Daily Record, Easdale reveals that Ashley made the controversial deal with former Rangers director Charles Green back in 2012.
Green later spent approximately £250,000 in legal fees trying to destroy the contract.
Sources close to Easdale confirm that the contract is watertight, but Ashley is yet to make a move on changing the name.
Sandy Easdale told the Daily Record: “Let’s clear this up, the Sports Direct Arena. Charles Green had already done a deal with Mike on that. Sports Direct haven’t taken it up as yet. Mike Ashley could call it the Sport Direct Arena tomorrow.”
