Thermo Fisher Scientific receives milestone VOD sampling system from Thyson Technology
Thyson Technology, a specialist in integrated sampling systems, has delivered its 20th Vacuum Oxide Decarbonisation (VOD) system order for Thermo Fisher Scientific, a world-leader in analytical equipment, instruments and services.
The self-cleaning VOD systems allow Thermo Fisher Scientific™ Prima PRO™ mass spectrometers to be used by steelmakers to analyse the composition of steel during the carbon removal process. Thyson Technology’s bespoke sampling setups accurately capture tail vapours emitted throughout the manufacturing process in real time, every seven seconds, which are then delivered to the mass spectrometers in the optimum time for analysis.
The system is used to model the heat process, which removes the trial and error predicting from the decarbonisation process.
Roger Brown, technical director at Thyson Technology, said: “Today’s steel manufacturing processes require fast, reliable and advanced equipment to ensure the product is on specification every time.
“The VOD sampling system also helps dramatically improve the efficiency of the decarbonisation process by reducing the number of re-heats to achieve the desired specification caused by timing errors. These re-heats prove very costly in terms of energy consumption and lost production time.”
“Our sampling systems continue to play a critical role in many industrial applications around the world, and our bespoke solutions are involved in a number of processes, from fiscal metering of natural gas to process quality monitoring on the latest waste to energy plants.”
