Controversial plans for Kenton Lane McDonalds rejected by Newcastle City Council
Newcastle City Council has rejected the proposed McDonald’s drive-thru store on Kenton Lane in Newcastle.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle City Council’s planning committee ignored a recommendation from its officers to approve the scheme at a meeting this afternoon.
The proposed fast food branch was to be build on the old Crofter’s Lodge site on Kenton Lane, just yards away from Kenton School.
The fast food giant will have to wait six months to appeal the decision, which was going to create 75 jobs for the region and generate £1.9 million for the North East economy.
Blakelaw Councillor David Stockdale said: “It’s a stunning victory for the people of Kenton.”
