Northumberland National Park partners with Pivotal Networks in WiFi project

Northumberland National Park has created a range of work spaces in the main Eastburn building of its Hexham headquarters, and in four units, known as pods, on its grounds.

With the help of a secure computing network installed throughout the site, embryo companies and sole traders can now enjoy the same levels of wireless connectivity as in the city.

The system has been created by Pivotal Networks, a sister company of North East cloud computing consultancy SITS Group and provides super-fast internet access along with Wi-Fi and telephony.

Pivotal Networks managing director Kevin Almond said: “While we specialise in providing this sort of system, this site threw up particular wireless challenges, not least because Eastburn is an old building with thicker walls than you might find in modern, or purpose built, office accommodation.

“There was existing wired networking in place, but the site had never been installed with wireless and, because of the wall thickness, a significant amount of planning had to go into its deployment.”
