Newcastle’s Ryder Architecture furthers Asian expansion

Newcastle-based architectural company, Ryder Architecture, are continuing to grow internationally, undertaking new projects in Hong Kong.

Ryder are the preferred bidder on a £200 million police headquarters project in Hong Kong, collaborating with Farrells and local developer Hsin Chong.

In the meantime, the Ryder/ Northumbria University specialist building information modelling joint venture, BIM Academy, continues to progress work on the £400 million M+ Museum with Farrells and Swiss practice Herzog & de Meuron.

Ryder has enjoyed a host of recent Newcastle and North East based projects include the redevelopment of Newcastle Central Station, Newcastle College Gateway, ongoing work for Nissan, Ashington Leisure Centre, a new masterplan for Hartlepool town centre and the Freeman Hospital cardiothoracic expansion.

BIM are too developing strong overseas relationships, particularly in BIM for facilities management, following a successful project for Sydney Opera House.

Managing partner, Mark Thompson, said: “ International growth is clearly gratifying but what is most rewarding is being listed in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies To Work For 2014 as the highest ranking architectural practice.

“This is a clear barometer our people are engaged and enjoying the diversity and challenge of our work.

“Our corporate social responsibility work is also very important.

“We recently launched our own charity - AzuKo - which is developing projects to improve lives in places with limited resources through community driven, research based design initiatives - Jo Ashbridge who runs AzuKo is currently working on a project in Mumbai.

“This is a very exciting period, opening up new horizons overseas and consolidating important projects across the UK.

“We remain determined not to become complacent as we emerge from recession, but confidence is growing - with significant projects in diverse sectors and international success we are set to push turnover beyond £10 million.”
