Yorkshire industrial property firm sign up to provide Olympic legacy

Yorkshire industrial property firm, Gent Visick, have signed up to help Leeds Rowing Club in their plans to provide an Olympic legacy in the region.

The Leeds based business has become the first corporate partner for the community club, a move that will help them to capitalise on a surge in popularity created by the Olympic effect.

The partnership comes about as Leeds Rowing Club are set to move into their new clubhouse in South Leeds, which is being shared with the University of Leeds.

Construction was completed this month on the £1 million facility, which has been part funded by the National Lottery, British Rowing, Sport England, Wren and the University of Leeds.

The Canal and Rivers Trust have offered the site to the club on a long-term lease. A grand opening will be held on Wednesday 17th September.

Rupert Visick, managing partner of Gent Visick commented: “It was important to us that we support a cause that promotes healthy lifestyles and provides opportunities to a wide section of the local community. The rowing Club has been one of the success stories of community sport in Leeds, and we’re delighted to be involved in their future plans.”

David Saul, chairman at Leeds Rowing Club said: “Gent Visick have been really supportive of our club, at what is an extremely exciting time for us.

“We have plans to treble the size of our membership over the next five years, and reaching out to local businesses is key to the success of those plans.

“The demand for the sport is massive and we’ve been oversubscribed since recent Olympic successes, especially with Yorkshire athletes like Andrew Triggs Hodge setting an example for local youngsters.”

Mark Goldstone, head of Business Representation at West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce concluded: “I’ve been happy to help advise Leeds Rowing Club with their expansion plans over recent months, an important part of which has been engaging the business community.

“This contribution from Gent Visick demonstrates the increasing role that businesses have in supporting these type of regionally significant projects.

“I’m certain that both parties will have a lot to gain from this relationship, and it’s something we’d support other businesses looking to do.”

The donation will go directly towards facilities and equipment, which will allow the club to cater for more members. The company’s employees have also been invited to attend a session at the club to get them on the water and give rowing a try.

Leeds Rowing Club are now on the lookout to develop more business partnerships to help build a new fleet of boats and help generate further Olympic success from the region.
