Essential Travel offers car hire excess waiver

Having problems with holiday hire car is bad enough but parting with unexpectedly large excess charges is a sure way to dampen the holiday mood.

In a unique move, leading independent travel insurance provider, Essential Travel, has launched an insurance policy for car hire that covers excess charges of up to £4,000 for accidental damage and loss. From just £3.99 a day any car hire excess can be waived, and Essential Travel will cover any damages that occur to the vehicle.

Options include cover for a single holiday, with up to 60 days continual cover, and an annual trip starting from £38.99.

Paul Paddock, insurance product, pricing and performance lead at Essential Travel, said: “Most people just sign their car hire paperwork without realising that they are accountable for the majority of things that could go wrong and end up with huge excess charges. This policy gives them protection and peace of mind.”

The policy, underwritten by Jubilee, Lloyds Syndicate 5820, is ideal for couples, families and groups of friends and covers Europe, the US and worldwide. It also protects customers against miss-fuelling, as well as damage to the undercarriage, windscreens and tyres, offering comprehensive cover at low prices.

What is covered in the policy?

- Tyres, windscreen and the under body of the vehicle - Theft, loss or damage to the vehicle that is hired up to £4,000 per incident / £5,000 per car rental agreement
