3Squared goes back to its roots to recruit
Software development company 3Squared, based in Sheffield, has gone back to its roots to recruit three students to undertake a one year placement with the business, as part of investing in growing its own home grown talent for the future.
Both managing director Tim Jones and commercial director James Fox, the founders of 3Squared, studied computer software engineering at Sheffield Hallam University where they met before setting up the company, after completing their studies.
They have now appointed Rowell Heria and Tom McGurrin to the .net team and Tom Sugarev to the mobile team within the business. All are third year placement students who will work with the company for 12 months, before returning to complete their final year.
3Squared has also appointed Alex Bennell as a test analyst to the company’s Quality Assurance team, who has recently completed his studies at Sheffield Hallam University.
James Fox, commercial director of 3Squared, said: “It’s a while since we left Sheffield Hallam University, but it’s great to be working with them to provide exciting opportunities for undergraduates and recent graduates within our business. We have offered placements for a number of years now and it means that the students we select get the opportunity to work on real life projects and to learn practical skills, as well as working to our coding standards. In many cases, we have offered full time employment to our placement students after they have completed their final year – so it’s a win-win for everyone!”
In September James will be presenting to second year students on the Computer Software Engineering course about the opportunity for a 12 month work placement with 3Squared once they have completed this year. James said: “I always tell the students – I was in your position 15 years ago and securing a work placement was the best thing I did. Both myself and Tim found the course at Sheffield Hallam University extremely valuable and it’s great to be going back to present to another new group of students this month.”
James Coppard, senior placements administrator at Sheffield Hallam University, said: “3Squared has been offering excellent software and programming roles to our students for several years now, and we are pleased to be able to continue this relationship with another three BSc Software Engineers securing roles with the company. We look forward to helping more students secure interesting placement opportunities in the future”
