New antenatal rights for fathers from 1st October
From 1st October 2014, expectant fathers or partners (including same sex) of a pregnant woman will have the right to take unpaid time off work to accompany the woman to up to 2 of her ante-natal appointments. The time off per appointment is capped at six and a half hours.
There is no minimum service requirement for employees, they have this right from ‘day one’. This entitlement also applies to agency workers, however, they must have worked for you in the same kind of role for at least 12 weeks to qualify.
To make sure you are compliant with this legislation, you should ensure that your Paternity policy is updated as soon as possible to include these new rights.
