Opsol UK takes on five star Apprentices
Opsol UK, a leading North East electronic manufacturing service provider, has taken on five apprentices within the last few months as part of a programme to train and develop the next generation of staff.
The apprentices range from 16 to 24 years old with two based in the business administration and three studying electronic engineering and benefitting from the expertise of the established workforce in the factory.
Martin Ormston, Manufacturing Manager at Opsol UK, manages Keiran Casey, 16, and Curtis Williamson, 17, who are both studying Electronic Engineering NVQ’ÂÂs, and spending 3 days a week at the factory. He also manages Ross Bennett, 24, who is working to achieve his HNC in Electronics.
Brogan Taylor, 21, and Racheal Dunbar, 20 , are working towards their Level 3 NVQ’ÂÂs in Business Admin and are overseen by Materials Manager, Jennifer Tait. All the apprentices live within ten miles of the facility.
Explaining more, Martin Ormston said: “ÂÂThis is the first time we’ÂÂve taken on apprentices in this manner at Opsol UK, although we have been developing young people since start up. It’ÂÂs one of our objectives to develop a stream of new employees to continue to support our ongoing growth and our apprentice program makes a significant contribution towards that goal. We’ve been really impressed by the enthusiasm and work ethic of all five young people.”
“We have highly skilled staff on site and for them to be able to pass on their knowledge to the next generation is invaluable. Keiran and Curtis’ placements were arranged by their colleagues and we’re delighted to have had them allocated to us. With Ross, it was slightly different, he approached us about some work experience and during that period we saw that he had a lot offer so we asked him whether he would like to be part of our future plans so we helped him find a place to support his study for his HNC.”
Jennifer Tait, herself a product of the people development ethos at Opsol, having recently completing her degree, commented: “ÂÂBrogan and Rachael are a real asset to a rapidly growing business. They have picked up our processes quickly and have really helped to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that customer queries are dealt with quickly and efficiently.”
Martin added: “The willingness to learn and the commitment to the business shown by all our apprentices has been incredible and we’ÂÂre delighted with how quickly they are progressing. It is great to have them as part of the team here at Opsol UK.”
