Rescue deal by Sheffield Data Centre secures future for over 100 small business websites
A Sheffield-data centre has come to the rescue of over 100 small businesses which faced the prospect of losing access to their company websites after a Barnsley-based web-hosting company closed its doors earlier this month.
Nytram Hosting, which provided web hosting support aimed at small businesses, ceased trading earlier in the summer, and with the company’s servers due to be turned off, Holbrook-based HA Hosting stepped in and negotiated a rescue deal for the company, allowing Nytram’s former clients to continue trading as normal.
When a web hosting company closes, the servers which are owned by the business are often switched off without warning, often leaving businesses dependent on the service unable to access or update their company website, and even impacting on the ability to send or receive emails from the domain. The loss of service can often paralyse businesses, not only resulting in loss of trade, but also unable to operate.
The rescue deal negotiated by HA Hosting will see the company acquire Nytram’s assets, with all affected websites being transferred to, and managed within HA Hosting’s custom-built data centre., allowing Nytram’s former clients to continue trading normally without experiencing any data loss or disruption.
Rory Delahoyde, Managing Director, HA Hosting said:
“When a web hosting company closes it can often plunge the businesses affected into chaos; especially when they have received very little warning. In some cases, when a web host closes, the first that a client becomes aware of a problem is simply because they can’t access their website or emails. Email in particular is an essential business tool, but for businesses selling goods online, even just a small amount of down time can have a significant impact on their business– often resulting in significant amounts of money and lost time in trying to re-claim their web domains and in worst case scenarios, re-build their company website from scratch.
“After hearing about the problems Nytram were facing, we devised a rescue package, allowing the companies which relied upon their services to continue trading, by transferring the domains and hosting support to our own data centre. For all concerned, it’s a win-win. The companies affected have been able to continue accessing their websites as normal and for us it has helped us to expand our web hosting offer, increasing our hosting portfolio by over 100 businesses overnight.
