£1.6 million Gateshead residential redevelopment underway

Keelman Homes, a charitable partner of The Gateshead Housing Company and Gateshead Council, together with the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) is investing £1.6 million to create 14 new affordable homes in Tarlton Crescent, Felling; Strathmore Road, Deckham; and Kirkwood Gardens, Wardley.

Esh Property Services is carrying out the construction work on behalf of Keelman Homes and the HCA.

The overall scheme is due to be completed by January 2015 and the new homes will be available for rent at affordable levels.

Housing portfolio holder with Gateshead Council, Cllr. Malcolm Graham, said: “It is fantastic to see this project is underway to help meet the ever increasing need for affordable homes in the area. I am sure they will be in great demand when they are completed.”

Board Chair of Keelman Homes, Brian Kelly, said: “We have already seen the valuable work that Keelman Homes has delivered in Gateshead with the development of a major regeneration scheme in Kibblesworth, which provided over 150 new homes in the village.

“Following that, we are pleased to be providing a range of new, affordable homes for families in other parts of the borough along with Gateshead Council and our other partners.”

Operations Director for Esh Property Services, Graham Morgan, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Keelman Homes to deliver these much needed homes and the three sites are progressing well.

“Currently the roofs are going onto the new homes at Felling, the timber frames which make for highly efficient construction and energy efficient living space are being erected at Strathmore and drainage infrastructure works are underway at Kirkwood Gardens.

“The new homes will include many energy-saving features including efficient boilers and very effective insulation which will help to keep running costs low, making the homes even more affordable.”
