North East businesses to stampede their way to finish line
NEWCASTLE Racecourse is challenging the North East business community to take part in a gruelling adventure race to raise funds for charity.
The racecourse is set to be transformed this month (Sunday, 19 October) for Newcastle Stampede, a challenging race which will see participants tackle a 10K cross country army assault course in aid of the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Mending Broken Hearts appeal.
Now in its fifth year, the BHF and Newcastle Racecourse have seen a 30 per cent increase in Newcastle Stampede entrants and are asking businesses from across the North East to make their bid to top the corporate leader board and continue signing up before the closing date of Sunday, 05 October at midnight.
Newcastle Stampede has been organised by the events team at Newcastle Racecourse in partnership with the charity and will see Rachel Divers, commercial manager and Lindsey Scott, financial controller, don their trainers to take part in the challenge.
Rachel, said: “Newcastle Stampede has a reputation as one of most enjoyable adventure races in the north of the UK for groups and solo runners alike. It is also an ideal alternative to traditional teambuilding exercises. It’s a great opportunity for employees to come together, get fit and bring out their competitive side as they pit themselves against businesses and organisations from across the region, and further afield, to see how far they can make it up the leader board.
“Lindsey and I are really excited for the race - it’s expected to be a very muddy challenge, so we will be taping down our trainers and are hoping that plenty of teams will be joining us at the start line!”
The challenge will see new obstacles this year, alongside old favourites including the Hay bale Pyramid, Gladiator Gauntlet and the not-so-tranquil, Swan Lake.
Newcastle Stampede is open to anyone aged 18 and over, and will take entrants around the grounds of Newcastle Racecourse under cargo nets, over hay bail hurdles and through the fearsome Gladiator Gauntlet. Entry to the event is £29 per person or £27 per person for groups of 15 or more. To register, visit bhf.org.uk/newcastle, call the events team on 0800 169 3672, or email at north@bhf.org.uk
