Design firm revamps catering services at leading events venue

A family-run design and installation company has revitalised key food and beverage areas in one of the UK’s largest exhibition and conference centres.

Restaurant Design Associates (RDA), based in South Tyneside, has worked with Kudos caterers, the on-site partner of Harrogate International Centre (HIC), to refurbish a number of the venue’s catering sites.

HIC attracts in excess of 160,000 visitors each year and has extensive experience of hosting major events, from large medical associations to high profile political party conferences.

Kudos, which provides all the catering within the centre, from banqueting and conference lunches to exhibition stands and retail outlets, appointed RDA to refurbish catering facilities in three key areas of the venue.

RDA designed, costed and refurbished the retail outlets within HIC’s 1835sqm Hall B and the 1853sqm Hall C, both of which are primarily used for large exhibitions and banquets.

The team was also responsible for the full refurbishment of the venue’s Kings Suite – a multi-purpose function space which is a popular choice for a wide range of smaller events, accommodating up to 225 people.

RDA’s £275,000 contract involved the fitting of new floors, ceilings, new shop-fitted counters and fabricated counters, decoration, new equipment, new prep kitchen, and mechanical and electrical installations.

Neil Addyman, project manager at RDA, said: “HIC is consistently acknowledged as being one of the country’s top venues and we were delighted to work with Kudos to revitalise several of the centre’s popular catering areas.

“This was a particularly significant project as it marked our first experience of working within an exhibition-led environment, so we were keen to show our creative skills and capabilities within this market.

“We’re hopeful that the successful outcome will act as a catalyst to further strengthen our presence in this sector in the coming months.”
