Design awards success for Harrison Pitt Architects

Harrison Pitt Architects has landed a double-win at this year’s Lancaster District Design Awards.

The Castle Hill-based firm has scooped an award for its design of the Cove Orchard retirement properties in Silverdale, Lancashire.

The prestigious award recognises the scheme’s design for keeping with the historic character of the area while offering a high standard of living to retired residents.

The 14-unit scheme which comprises eight two-bedroom bungalows, two three-bedroom dormer bungalows and four two-bedroom apartments, is set in the grounds of Abbeyfield residential care home and provides assisted living accommodation to those wishing to maintain independence.

Richard Parker, director at Harrison Pitt Architects, said: “Cove Orchard has been a roaring success with Lancaster retirees due to the properties’ clever design as well as its pleasing aesthetic. The homes were designed sensitively to fit in with the area’s natural beauty while offering stunning views of Morecambe Bay.

“It’s fantastic to be recognised for our high quality design work, particularly as the standard of buildings designed in the area over the past year have been outstanding.”

Harrison Pitt Architects have also been recognised for the success of its Hornby-based Strands Barn office development, securing a commendation for its work on the stone built commercial building.

The awards ceremony was held at Lancaster University where Sir Christopher Frayling, former chairman of the Arts Council, presented the joint award to Harrison Pitt Architects, Applethwaite and Abbeyfield Society for work on the Cove Orchard retirement scheme.
