Northumbrian Candleworks expands to new premises as business booms
A Hexham-based business has relocated to a bigger workshop space, following a number of recent contract wins, after seeing business boom.
Northumbrian Candleworks, a family owned business creating artisan scented soy wax candles, reed diffusers and other aromatics, has moved to a unit on the Hexham Enterprise Hub, allowing the company to cope with the increasing demands of meeting larger trade orders.
Thanks to its work developing new ranges and marketing these more widely throughout the UK, the company has built on the solid base of its first four years in business and, this year, expects to generate a fourfold increase in turnover on last year’s performance.
It has also seen its customer base grow by a similar percentage.
Each candle created by Northumbrian Candleworks is hand blended and poured to the highest standards by a team of highly skilled candle-makers.
The candles are made with natural, pure environmentally friendly soy wax, which is 100% GM, pesticide and herbicide free, meaning it burns cleanly, without the soot generated by the more common paraffin candle.
Northumbrian Candleworks has developed the scented soy candle recipes over the years to create truly authentic fragrances that throw the scent consistently throughout the burn of each candle.
The company chose soy wax as it not only has amazing environmental credentials, but also has unrivalled fragrance-holding properties.
Northumbrian Candleworks now has over 25 fragrances to choose from in a range that includes small and large tins, in addition to candles in glass, tea lights, wax melts, reed diffusers and natural body products.
Business owner and head chandler, Peter Cooke, said: “Our relocation to a bigger workshop facility is great news.
“Not only is business booming with more and more orders from our trade customers coming in, it’s also great news for the local economy.
“Of course, our products are still available to other customers via our website – that side of the business will not change.
“However, with our bigger workshop space, we’re able to meet the growing demand from our trade customers and also hope to recruit another chandler to assist with fulfilling the orders in the near future.”
“At Northumbrian Candleworks, we’ve always been committed to creating top-quality products that have been hand made with love and care.
“While our new facilities will allow us to fulfil more orders and on a larger scale, in no way will we allow this to impact on the crafted superiority of our products – a standard that we have become known and respected for.”
