Law firm takes on new apprentices

Two young apprentices are cutting their teeth in the legal world after being employed by a leading North Yorkshire law firm.

Lauren Almond and Annabel Charlton are working in the Northallerton practice of Coles Solicitors.

The pair are the newest apprentices to be taken on by Coles, which employs 45 staff across eight practices in Yorkshire.

Annabel, from Ainderby Steeple, near Northallerton, joined the practice in September having left at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College with A-Levels in biology, psychology and geography.

The 18-year-old has her sights set on a career in law and is currently learning the ropes as an Apprentice Office Assistant on the New Business Team. As well as doing general office work, she also provides conveyancing quotes for the purchasing and selling of houses.

Annabel says: “I would like to work in family law and am aiming to gain the qualifications I need to become a Chartered Legal Executive.

“I am really enjoying working at Coles. It has been totally different to anything I’ve done before but I really enjoy learning new things and I find it very rewarding and interesting.”

Lauren, 21, from Bagby near Thirsk, also joined the practice in September and is working as an Apprentice Administration Assistant, where her jobs include sorting post, sending out letters, answering phone calls and much more.

She says: “I am working towards a qualification in Business Administration and at the same time I am taking night classes in order to further my knowledge of computers and IT.

“As I learn more and become more confident in the role I would like to take on more responsibility. So far my experience at Coles Solicitors has been a positive one, everyone has been very welcoming and I look forward to what’s to come in the future.”

“As Apprentices they will gain valuable insight into the day-to-day workings of a busy legal practice and hopefully this will lead to them both pursuing permanent careers in the industry.”
