Newcastle United named as Premier League’s most affordable club to follow
Newcastle United have again been named as the lowest priced matchday experience for supporters in the Premier League for the third successive season.
Results were announced on Wednesday morning as part of the BBC Sport’s Price of Football survey, which compared prices of 176 clubs in 11 divisions across British football.
Prices are recorded for items including the most expensive and cheapest season tickets and adult matchday tickets, as well as the cost of a tea, a pie and a programme, with a calculation made to find the cheapest possible day out at a match.
Notably, Newcastle United sell the cheapest matchday ticket in the Premier League, selling for £15 which is considerably cheaper than Arsenal’s cheapest matchday ticket priced at £97, a difference of £82.
Combining that ticket with a matchday programme (£3), a pie (£3) and a cup of tea (£2.30) makes a trip to St. James’ Park for a Barclays Premier League fixture potentially cost just £23.30 (including a £15 ticket), the cheapest in the division and the lowest of all the football league clubs in the North-East.
NUFC beat Hull City by 70p, as their overall matchday experience came out as £24.
Sunderland Football Club’s cheapest reported matchday experience came in at £33.20 whilst other local rivals Middlesbrough, playing in the Championship, was reported as £28.80.
