Free workshops set to boost 100 Teesside businesses

A business expert who has helped regional companies secure contracts worth more than £100 million is the guest speaker at a free business masterclass on Teesside.

Garry Stone, managing director of B2B North, will be sharing top tips and providing a wealth of procurement advice to around 100 businessmen and women at the event at Wilton Centre, Redcar.

The event, organised by the Redcar and Cleveland Enterprise Team, aims to demystify the procurement process by informing businesses of how to successfully bid for, and win, new contracts.

Garry will hold two workshops; one that delivers top tips for tendering, the other will explore ways businesses can join forces to improve their chances of success.

There’s also an opportunity to talk to some of the people responsible for buying services for a wide range of organisations including Redcar and Cleveland Council, Middlesbrough Council, Stockton Council, Darlington Council, Cleveland Fire Brigade, Tees Valley Unlimited, NEPO, NEPIC, Durham Tees Valley Airport and Warm Up North.

The session will focus on how the procurement landscape is changing, and how those changes are expected to bring benefits to local companies and social enterprises.

The event on Wednesday, November 5, has been organised by the Redcar and Cleveland Enterprise Team.

Part of Redcar and Cleveland Council, the team is providing free tailored business support to more than 250 companies across the borough.

The team is made up of skilled business coaches and is focused on helping companies across the borough to achieve their goals, including moving premises, increasing their turnover and improving profitability.

Redcar and Cleveland Council cabinet member for economic development, Councillor Mark Hannon, is confident the procurement event will help firms grow and lead to further job creation.

Garry, who has successfully helped start-ups, family firms and well established

businesses, said: “This is a great event for anyone looking to take advantage of the improving economic situation and grow their business.

“I’ll be there to provide people with some top tendering tips and answer any questions they might have.

“Whether your business is turning over £1,000 or £1 million, there are a few golden rules to remember and some common mistakes to avoid.

“As director of B2B North I’ve helped businesses in nearly every sector imaginable and passed the £100 million mark in potential contract value some time ago now.”

In addition to the two workshops Garry, in association with the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses), will also be delivering a keynote session “The Social Value Act and Local Procurement.”

Councillor Mark Hannon, said:“By working together and sharing skills, expertise and experience we can all contribute to a growing economy.

“The free events organised by the Enterprise Team are a great example of how the local authority is working to help businesses succeed.

“There is a lot on offer at the procurement event and plenty of opportunities for businesses to network with key decision makers.”
