Charity's birthday ball success
THE TEAM at Calvert Trust Kielder is celebrating after their annual fundraising ball smashed its target and raised more than £31,000 for the charity.
The night, which this year also marked the charity’s 30th anniversary, saw over 200 guests enjoy dinner, dancing and most importantly lots of fundraising at Hilton Newcastle Gateshead.
In recognition of the birthday milestone the ball was a celebration of the 1980s with themed music and fancy dress alongside entertainment including hook-a-duck, pass the parcel, raffle and a ‘99 red balloons’ release, accompanied by Nena’s infamous 80s track of course.
There was an amazing selection of prizes including flights to Dubai kindly donated by Emirates and a corporate box at St James Park donated by Concept Group.
Guests on the evening enjoyed an inspirational speech from gold medal winning Paralympian Stephen Miller who received a well-deserved standing ovation.
Calvert Trust Kielder is a registered charity which enables disabled people to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure.
CEO Peter Cockerill said: “The Calvert Ball is always a very important fundraiser for us but with this being our 30th anniversary year this year’s ball was very special. The atmosphere was very celebratory, Stephen’s speech was absolutely and utterly inspiring and a great night was had by all.
“To top it off we raised thousands and thousands of pounds for the charity. Special thanks goes out to this year’s sponsors, TLW Solicitors, Perro, Robson Print, Quantum Pharmaceutical and Coversure Insurance Services. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of these businesses so we are very, very grateful.”
John Burn from sponsors TLW Solicitors was also there at the ball and agreed it was a brilliant event. He said: “It was a great night made even better by the fantastic amount of money raised.
“We have worked with and supported Calvert Trust Kielder for a long time now and appreciate just what a great job they do, what the money raised is used for and the many people it helps. TLW was very proud to be part of it.”
Calvert Trust Kielder’s next fundraiser is its annual Christmas Family Festival on Sunday 23rd November 2014 at Hilton Newcastle Gateshead. With free entry and lots of fun including a Christmas market, Santa’s grotto and mobile bowling alley it’s a guaranteed fun day for all the family.
