Construction to begin on disused Rotherham car showroom to make way for Aldi
Leeds-based Gregory Projects Ltd has announced that construction is due to commence for a new retail development at the junction of Great Eastern Way and Broad Street in Rotherham, which has been pre-let to Aldi and Iceland.
The site has been redundant for over three years since its previous use as a car showroom.
Forward funding has been secured from Bramall Properties Ltd for a 50,000 sq ft retail development which is already 80% pre-let to occupiers.
Sheffield-based JF Finnegan is the appointed contractor due to start on site at the start of next month.
Richard Tovey, director at Gregory Projects (which is part of the Gregory Property Group) said: “The property has been vacant for some time and we are pleased to bring it back into use.
“The strength of the location has attracted an excellent tenant line-up enabling funding to be secured at an early stage in the project.
“We look forward to working with the appointed builder and professional team to deliver the scheme for Rotherham and in particular, the Parkgate and Rawmarsh communities.”
The Leeds office of GVA has advised Gregory Projects on the pre-lettings and is now marketing the vacant accommodation which can cater for requirements of between 1,000 sq ft and 10,000 sq ft.
Walker Morris acted for Gregory Projects in the site purchase, funding and lettings. Shulmans advised Bramall Properties Ltd.
The development is due to be completed by July 2015.
