For Russia with love – Sky Blues expand social media reach
Manchester City FC have expanded their social media presence with the launch of an official MCFC page on VK - Europe’s largest Russian social media network.
Packed with the latest City news, images and videos, the new MCFC VK page has been launched on the eve of the club’s Champions’ League clash with CSKA Moscow.
First introduced in 2006 as VKontakte, which means “in touch”, VK has quickly risen to become the eighth most popular social media site in the world with around 270 million users.
The move into Russian social media builds on the success of the Club’s recently launched Russian website www.russian.mcfc.com and Twitter account @MCFCRussian.
No stranger to the region, City also boasts a number of Russian speaking stars including Yaya Toure and Fernandinho who played for Metalurh Donetsk and Shakhtar Donetk in the Ukraine.
Diego Gigliani, Director of Marketing, Media and Fan Development for Manchester City, said: “As City’s global community of supporters continues to grow, we are constantly exploring new ways to connect fans to the club, the players and each other, wherever they live in the world.
“Manchester City enjoys terrific support in Russia and Eastern Europe, so to have a presence on one of their biggest social platforms will enable us to build deeper relationships with our fans in the region.”
Yaroslav Andreev, Chief Marketing Officer for VK. added: “We are honoured to not only welcome the English Premier League Champions, but also one of the best teams in the world on to VKontakte.
“We are glad that more and more well-known sports clubs and organisations like Manchester City are choosing VK as the main platform to promote its brand in Eastern Europe.
“We are confident the Manchester City VK page will be of interest to not only City fans, but football fans in general”.
Fans can get in touch with City through VK by visiting www.VK.com/MCFC
