North Yorkshire dentist gets taste for top award

A Richmond dentist has made it to the finals of a prestigious awards ceremony.

Claire Lawson invested over a quarter of a million pounds to open CTL Dental, on Newbiggin in the town centre, at the end of 2013 and has seen her practice grow steadily since then thanks to its unique offering in the area of a full out-of-ours service.

Having won numerous awards, Claire is one of the region’s most highly qualified dentists and has now been named as a finalist in the Private Dentistry Awards in the ‘Best New Practice’ category.

The awards are recognised as being a valuable external guarantee for patients of practice performance and reward progress, effort and enterprise in the sector. CTL Dental is up against competition from practices across the UK and will find out if they have won in November at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel in London.

Claire said: “Being named as a finalist in the Private Dentistry Awards is a huge accolade in this industry. It’s so competitive as these really are the awards that make you stand out from the crowd and are seen as an endorsement. I’m really thrilled for the team that we have been short-listed less than a year after we launched as everyone has worked so hard to make us a success in the local community who have also been a fabulous support.”

Claire began her career in the military, working in the Royal Army Dental Corp both at home and in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Bosnia. On her return to the North East, Claire worked at Newcastle Dental Hospital, in various dental practices and within community services across the region.

Claire and her partner, Richard, invested around £300,000 to open CTL Dental after recognising a niche in the market for a dental practice in the Richmond area which could offer a full range of services and practical opening times, on evenings and weekends.

Claire herself specialises in family dentistry as well as restorative and laser dentistry and work with nervous patients and those with special needs.

As well as an extensive range of specialist dental and medical qualifications, Claire is one of only 1% of dentists nationally who have pursued their industry education to advanced MSc level. In 2010, Claire was named Young Dentist of the Year and has also been a finalist in the Dentist of the Year and Private Dentistry Awards.

CTL Dental offers a host of services including root treatments, crowns and bridgework, denture design, implants and veneers, facial aesthetics and more. In addition, Claire is one of only a handful of dentists in the North Yorkshire region qualified to offer and extensively experienced in laser dentistry which is especially effective for nervous patients as it is less intrusive and can reduce healing times.
