Great North Greats: Touring Exhibition Continues on Track
Organisers of this year’s historic Bupa Great North Run are delighted to announce that the rolling tour of the North East’s finest achievements and triumphs is moving to it’s second location along the Great North Run route, to Cleadon Park Library, in celebration of this year’s special milestone.
On September 7 2014, the Bupa Great North Run became the first sporting event of its kind to achieve its one millionth finish and the team are proud to be hosting a one off touring exhibition for the region’s families to enjoy.
Developed in partnership with Tyne & Wear Museums Archives, the Great North Greats exhibition features 5 of the regions celebrated ‘greats’ including inventor Joseph Swan, industrialists William Armstrong and Rachel Parsons as well as sporting legends Harry Clasper and Tanni Grey-Thompson presented alongside a new addition - Tracey Cramond, Millionth Great North Run finisher.
The exhibition also features a growing number of digital stories and oral histories, highlighting many of the regions unsung heroes and their stories of triumph against the odds and new stories collected from the Great North Run Opening Ceremony volunteers.
Cleadon Park Library will host the exhibition for 10 weeks kicking off with a Family Fun Day 10am – 2pm on Monday 27th October and continuing until 3rd January, 2015.
Local Award winning children’s writer Simon Bartram, author of ‘Bob, the man on the moon’ will be making a guest appearance delivering a story time and illustration workshop during this free drop in session.
South Shields Museum & Art Gallery will also be offering a unique opportunity to handle sporting objects and artefacts from their collection.
