1 in 5 of North East households workless
The North East has the highest percentage of the UK’s workless households, at 21.2%, according to the Office for National Statistics.
The Office’s statistical study looked at the UK as a whole, analysing the period from April to May 2014.
Whilst 1 in 5 North East households were found to be without work, the lowest total came from the South East where there were only 12.3% of workless households.
The report found that percentage of households where no adults work was 15.9%, down 1.4 percentage points from a year earlier and the largest fall since comparable records began.
Moreover, the percentage of households where all adults work was 55.3%, up 1.5 percentage points from a year earlier.
The percentage of households in which no adult has ever worked was 1.5%, the same as a year earlier.
There were around 1.5 million children living in workless households, down 132,000 from a year earlier.
