Preston firms appointed for Leyland Trucks project

Leyland Trucks has appointed Conlon Construction to undertake a renovation project its headquarters at Lancashire Business Park, in Farington, Leyland.

Designed by architectural and planning consultancy practice, Cassidy + Ashton, the 52-week project will provide an additional floor on top of existing two-storey office accommodation.

It is also enabling the truck manufacturer to upgrade its office space and re-organise factory flow systems.

Expected to start on site on 10th November 2014, the multi-phase project includes extending the staff canteen, upgrading existing office space, toilets and the medical centre, establishing a conference room and visitor centre.

The design hub, which is currently sited on the factory floor, will be relocated as part of the project, providing 12,271 sq ft of additional space for lean material flow improvements to the assembly process.

With a history dating back to 1896, Leyland Trucks, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc, employs around 1,000 staff and produces 50 trucks per day.

Michael Conlon, chairman at Conlon Construction, said: “Leyland Trucks is one of Lancashire’s greatest success stories, so we’re honoured to have been awarded this contract.

“This renovation project will enable Leyland Trucks to streamline its business operations, providing better flexibility and efficiency across the engineering and administrative sides of the business.

“It will also provide better facilities for the many customer and education visits hosted throughout the year.”

Iain Scales, director at Cassidy + Ashton, added: “Our planning application and designs received overwhelming approval from committee members at South Ribble Borough Council, so we’re extremely pleased that a contractor, who we have worked with on many occasions, will be starting on site very soon.”
