Young designers compete to launch the new BMW with Stratstone Tyneside

To celebrate the launch of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, pupils from Bothal Middle School in Ashington partnered with Stratstone Tyneside BMW on an exciting design competition.

Their brief was to design original livery for the new model which depicted their idea of a perfect day out with family and friends.

Year 5 pupil, Calanthe Wales, aged 11 from Choppington, won the competition with a colourful design capturing a family day out in the countryside.

Her design has been brought to life on the sides of the dealership’s demonstrator model and unveiled at the official launch of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer at Stratstone Tyneside’s dealership. Fellow pupils Grace Middleton and Ethan Storey, both aged 10 were awarded joint second place.

David Guy, dealer principal at Stratstone Tyneside BMW, said: “The livery design project is a national BMW initiative which Bothal students entered enthusiastically. We were very pleased with the standard of entries; the kids went to a great deal of effort which made judging tough for our panel.

“We also had a lot of fun hosting them at the launch, their enthusiasm is infectious and Clanathe’s sketch looks great on the car. Our team say it’s been the best launch event we’ve hosted and thoroughly enjoyed working with Bothal Middle School on this project.”

Clanathe’s winning design will stay on the car for some time to come and the car is also going on display at the School.

Principal at Bothal Middle, Andy Roberts commented: “I’m very proud of our students and would like to thank David and his team for partnering with us. Bothal has a strong association with Stratstone Tyneside BMW. Our children thrive on working with businesses in a real-life scenario. Such links enhance the curriculum, bringing a real- life application and purpose to studies, at a young age.”
