Irish spend 104 hours a year queuing on a night out

IRISH SPEND 104 HOURS A YEAR QUEUING ON A NIGHT OUT

Orderella launches in Ireland bringing the end of long queues on a night out

  • Midnight misses: One in three people admit they ‘missed’ midnight on New Year’s Eve because they were queuing at a bar
  • Love queues: One in five lovestruck people have missed out on chatting up a love interest by being stuck in a queue
  • Queuing pains: Saturday night between 8 – 9pm is the peak queuing time in Irish bars
  • A fiver a queue: 84% of Irish adults would pay 5 euros to skip a queue

Dublin, 3rd November 2014, 21 per cent of adults in Ireland spend over an hour waiting at the bar on an average night out according to new research by Orderella, a cashless app that lets users beat the queue in bars and clubs across Dublin wasting 104 hours a year simply queuing. The study, which polled 500 people in the Republic of Ireland, revealed that a further one in five (19 per cent) spend at least half an hour waiting to get served at the bar.

While we’re stuck at the bar we’re missing out on big moments too. Over a third of people claim to have missed the biggest night with of the year as 37 per cent said they had missed midnight on New Year’s Eve because they’re queuing for a drink. The research by Orderella also reveals that 19 per cent have missed out on chatting someone up, 18 per cent of football fans have missed a goal, 16 per cent claim they miss out on gossip, and one in ten have missed the beginning of a movie or show.

It also seem that the Irish are not a nation of queuers, with over 86 per cent of respondents claiming they’d walk out of a bar if they thought queue was too long with bars missing out on valuable customers through queuing problems. A further 92 per cent would pay to skip a long queue in the pub and 84% said they would be prepared to pay up to 5 euros.

Dennis Collet, co-founder and CEO of Orderella said: “That 92 per cent of those surveyed would pay to skip the queue is interesting to us because they don’t have to, our app is completely free. People go to the pub to socialise and catch up with friends and family, not stand in long queues with strangers. Orderella lets you completely beat the queue so you can enjoy your night out. It also means you don’t have to cram your bag or pockets with wallets or purses because our app makes your night completely cashless too.”

The research was commissioned to tie in with the launch of Orderella today in Ireland, a cashless app that now lets you beat the queue in bars and clubs across Dublin. Orderella first launched in the UK in November 2013 and has grown from 3-130 venues. The launch in Dublin marks Orderella’s expansion plans for Ireland over the next 12 months in cities such a Cork and Galway. Plans are also in place to get Orderella in sports stadiums, theatres, cinemas and student union across Ireland too.

You can download Orderella for free from Google Play or the App Store and find an Orderella venue near you. Customers can then check in via the unique Orderella location based service, browse the venues drinks and food menus, select their favourite items and go to the virtual check out to process payment.
