Possible takeover for Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers’ chairman is in Thailand for discussions about a possible takeover.

The managing director of BEC-Tero, Bryan Marcar, openly expressed an interest in the club last week according to BBC Radio Manchester

The Thai entertainment company’s boss was quoted in The Nation as saying “As for the bid to take over Bolton, I must admit I have a close relationship with the club’s president.

“The club has plenty of property, and most importantly, they have their own stadium, hotel and football academy.

“In terms of their financial status, they made profits between 2004 and 2006, but suffered losses since then, with their debt now standing at 150 million pounds. However, the club is willing to address this situation. “

BBC News reports that Bolton manager Neil Lennon said,“I don’t know about selling the club, but I know Phil Gartside is in Thailand to discuss a proposition from some Thai businessmen,”

The cost of Bolton Wanderers’ relegation from the Premier League in 2012 was revealed to be £50.7 million, a key contributing factor to the club’s overall debt of circa £150 million.
