Hebburn’s Castle Building Services secures £8.7 million in new contracts
The leisure industry is proving to be a lucrative source of new business for one of the region’s fastest growing building services design and installation contractors, as it announces that it has secured new business worth £8.7 million.
Hebburn-based Castle Building Services (Castle), has won a series of new contracts on a number of hotel projects in the region and further afield, valued at £5.7 million.
In London, Castle will be working for main contractor RGB on a major redevelopment scheme to convert a key property in the city’s famous Leicester Square into an 80-bedroom, five-star luxury hotel.
Castle will commence on site on this heavily serviced and challenging project, where no two bedrooms are the same size, in November this year.
Closer to home, Castle has been appointed by contractor Interserve, on a design and build basis, for the refurbishment and extension of a Grade II Listed building on Newcastle’s Newgate Street.
Previously a CO-OP store, this project is set to create a new 184-bedroom Premier Inn, further adding to the city’s burgeoning hotel provision.
In Middlesbrough, the contractor will work on behalf of Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd to provide full mechanical and electrical design and installation services on the conversion of disused office accommodation in the Cleveland Centre, Middlesbrough, into a 138-bedroom Holiday Inn Express. The project forms part of significant regeneration plans for Middlesbrough’s town centre.
In recent years Castle has gained extensive experience of designing and installing building services within the hotel sector, having completed a number projects for some of the sector’s leading brands, including Radisson Blu at Manchester Airport, Tune Hotel, Edinburgh and Hotel Indigo, Glasgow.
Further to these latest leisure sector wins, the contractor has been appointed to work on the major redevelopment of the Watson Building, a Grade II Listed property, formerly home to a John Lewis department store, in Liverpool on a contract worth £3 million.
Working with Bowmer and Kirkland’s North West Regional office in Manchester, Castle will deliver extensive mechanical and electrical design and installation services on the redevelopment the building transforming it into highly energy efficient Grade A office accommodation.
The interior of the Watson Building has so far been demolished with only floor plates remaining and a new extension is to be constructed.
Along with the building contractor’s team, Castle’s project manager and site operatives will be required to work closely with the local council and conservation officers to ensure that there is no impact on any remaining original features and a seamless integration of services between the Listed element and new build parts of the project.
Castle’s commercial director, Allan Carr, said: “Having completed a number of hotel projects in recent years we have a full understanding of the requirements of such heavily serviced buildings.
“Coupled with that, is our experience of working on Listed buildings and in situations where there is a need to marry the old with the new and the challenges that brings.
“These orders will be keeping our teams busy well into 2015.”
It is understood that Castle has also won hotel projects in Glasgow and Heathrow and further details of these contracts will be announced in the coming months.
