Surrey County Council sets up website offering multi-million pound public sector contracts
Surrey County Council has launched SupplytoSurrey, offering public sector contracts worth hundreds of millions of pounds to local businesses.
The SupplytoSurrey site lists deals from the county council, Surrey Police, the University of Surrey and the county’s 11 borough and districts.
More than 80 firms registered on the site within 72 hours of its launch.
The county council created the site as part of its pledge to ensure 60% of spending on goods and services goes to local businesses.
It came after contracts worth more than £10 million on the BuildSurrey website established to encourage local construction firms to bid for work.
Surrey County Council’s deputy leader Peter Martin said: “Our aim is to ensure 60% of the county council’s spending is with local businesses so it’s great that firms are rushing to sign up to the new site.
“Our BuildSurrey website has already helped hundreds of local firms win millions of pounds worth of contracts and I have no doubt that SupplytoSurrey will also go from strength to strength.”
