Stagecoach North East launches new £3.5 million bus fleet in Tees Valley
Bus operator Stagecoach North East have invested £3.5 million into a fleet of 25 new wifi-enabled single decker buses, which will operate in the Tees Valley.
To mark the arrival of the new buses, Stagecoach North East has branded the vehicles with funky artwork and designs based on zones to illustrate the comfort, technology, efficiency and green credentials of the new bus fleet.
Visitors to Stockton High Street were able to take a look around the brand new buses, and staff were hand to advise customers on the benefits, as well as handing out new timetables and maps with information on new evening and Sunday services and improvements to routes.
Passengers travelling around Stockton and Middlesbrough will soon be able to board the new ADL Enviro 300 buses, which have the latest environmentally friendly engines, and get access to all the latest online news and views while commuting across the region using the free wifi.
The vehicles are also easily accessible for wheelchair users, those with buggies and mobility problems and all have CCTV fitted internally and externally.
Managing Director of Stagecoach North East, Phil Medlicott, said: “It was great to see so many people brave the rain to come and meet with us at our road show in the High Street.
“We continually look towards enhancing our fleet and we hope the investment will significantly improve the travel experience we offer our customers across the Tees Valley.
“The fact that 91 per cent of Stagecoach North East’s bus passengers are satisfied with their overall service is a great endorsement of the commitment of our people and our strong partnership with our local authorities.
“Buses are critical to communities and our economy and provide vital public transport links across the Tees Valley region.”
MP for Stockton North, Alex Cunningham, said: “I am delighted to see that as part of its new investment Stagecoach has responded to calls from residents, councillors and the local Member of Parliament by improving local routes and introducing new evening and Sunday services, including to the Glebe in Norton.
“This is very good news for my constituents. I look forward to continuing to work with Stagecoach to deliver the further improvements to services that local people want.”
