£1.2 million transport investment in South Yorkshire by operator Stagecoach

Operator Stagecoach has invested £1.2 million in bus transportation in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

A fleet of six Gold buses has been launched which will operate between Sheffield, Chesterfield and Matlock, were introduced at a special launch event at the Proact Stadium.

Operating on Stagecoach route X17, it is the first Stagecoach Gold fleet to be introduced in the region by Stagecoach Yorkshire.

The Mayors of Chesterfield and Matlock and the chief executive of Chesterfield Borough Council attended the event with some collected and transported to the launch event at Chesterfield FC’s stadium in the new Gold vehicles.

Paul Lynch, managing director, Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “We’re extremely proud to introduce these fantastic vehicles on the X17 route between Sheffield, Chesterfield and Matlock.

“It’s a long, busy route and has been growing really well over the last few years, attracting lots of new passengers. We wanted to make it even better and came up with the idea of Stagecoach Gold.

“It’s been used by Stagecoach in other areas of the country with success so we are delighted to bring it here.

“The vehicles have handpicked staff, smart leather seats and wifi and they are beyond any buses we, or any other operator, has in this region. It’s a further boost for this wonderful service.”

The Mayor of Chesterfield, Councillor Alexis Diouf, said: “It’s a wonderful investment. I like travelling in comfort and clearly, in a time of competition in the transport industry I think Stagecoach has invested very well to make life for passengers very comfortable.”

The Mayor of Matlock, Councillor David Barker, said: “I’m really pleased that the buses Stagecoach is using to serve Matlock are Gold. Hopefully it will help to bring more people from Sheffield and Chesterfield to the town.”
