Cramlington’s Howard Russell set to triple turnover to £15 million

Independent Cramlington construction firm, Howard Russell, is set to triple its turnover to £15 million following its latest contract win.

The firm has been appointed as main contractor on a £2.5 million refurbishment of Mash Purveyors newly acquired 53,000 sq ft warehouse unit at the prestigious Park Royal Business Estate in northwest London.

Mash Purveyors, who are distributors of quality fruit and vegetables to some of London’s finest hotels and restaurants, are relocating from New Covent Garden Market to what will be their new UK headquarters.

The Park Royal refurbishment will be Howard Russell’s first BIM (Building Information Modelling) compliant project.

The firm has made a substantial investment in IT upgrades, software, staff training and the development of documentation and procedures to meet the latest BIM standards, which uses a ‘3D only’ methodology for designing buildings.

The project is due to commence on 17th November with completion due in March 2015.

Howard Russell are currently appointed on construction projects amounting to in excess of £9 million including; the refurbishment and fit-out of ITV’s existing office in Gateshead, an extension of Akzo Nobel’s industrial unit in Felling, an office fit-out and extension for Maquet at Boldon Business Park and the re-development of a large car parts manufacturing plant on behalf of Gestamp Tallent in Newton Aycliffe.

This period of growth has resulted in a number of new jobs for the firm, which now employs 22 full-time members of staff in addition to supporting local sub-contractors and suppliers wherever possible.

Pre-construction manager of Howard Russell, Craig Muldoon, said: “This instruction is a fantastic way to conclude what will be Howard Russell’s most successful year since the business was established in 1997.

“Tripling our turnover is a significant milestone and one that has exceeded our expectations.

“We are looking forward to working with Mash Purveyors on what will be our first London-based instruction and a highly specialist fit-out including various refrigeration rooms for storage of their fresh produce.”

Howard Russell’s contracts manager, Barry Wilkinson, added: “By 2016 all large public sector buildings must be completed using the BIM approach. At Howard Russell we have taken proactive steps to become BIM ready.

“Our team has been collaborating regularly in our newly developed BIM Hub in our head office and have trialled various 3D tools.

“We are now looking forward to seeing what benefits this can bring to our new project in the capital.”
