Manchester Metrolink to extend to Trafford Park in a £350 million deal

Manchester has new and approved plans to extend the Metrolink system through to Trafford Park.

The deal, was announced by George Osborne during his recent visit to Manchester.

EventCity and its visitors will be able to enjoy a stop directly outside the exhibition and events venue.

There are currently buses that link Trafford Park to Manchester City Centre and the surrounding areas, however the Metrolink is seen as a much quicker more efficient form of public transport.

Chancellor George Osborne commented “It is great news that, thanks to the devolution deal I have agreed with Manchester today, there will be a further £350 million extension to Trafford which will provide significant additional benefits to the city.

“The Metrolink will come under the powers of the new Mayor, supporting an Oyster-style travel card system that will make traveling on the network and all of Greater Manchester’s public transport simpler and easier”.

Councillor Andrew Fender, chair of the transport for Greater Manchester committee, commented that the “scheme will benefit thousands of people and many businesses in the area”.
