Midlands businesses get to the bottom of settlement agreements

Business professionals from across Birmingham were updated on legislation surrounding managing employees and settlement agreements during an event hosted by city recruitment experts Katie Bard and international law firm DLA Piper.

The law firm, which is based at Victoria Square House, gave an informative overview of the legal processes associated with dealing with performance management issues which included reviewing recent high-profile unfair dismissal cases.

Imogen Noons, Legal Director and Ellen Inglis, Associate from DLA Piper, were on hand to explain the processes involved for employers and employees with regards to negotiating settlement agreements.

Kam Vara, divisional leader at Waterloo Street-based Katie Bard, which is part of the international Angela Mortimer group, said there are a lot of pitfalls that employers and employees need to be aware of before agreeing to settlements.

“It is not uncommon for companies and out-going employees to unknowingly enter into settlements which are not bound by law and codes of practice,” she said.

“The event provided a useful update on how to manage processes and procedures correctly and how to avoid making costly mistakes. We’ve partnered with DLA Piper on similar seminars in recent times and we’re pleased our latest event was just as well received.”
