Brewing Up Success Across the UK
A County Durham microbrewery is expanding its reach across the UK after being endorsed by one of the hospitality industry’s leading operators.
From December, the American Pale Ale produced by Sonnet 43 Brew House, Coxhoe, will be included in a list of recommended beers compiled by Mitchells & Butlers – the largest operator of restaurants, pubs and bars across the UK.
The list, which is valid until February 2015, will be given to all of the venues working under the company’s Nicholson’s and Castle brands, with a suggestion that they consider stocking the award-winning beer on a temporary or long term basis.
With a combined 1612 sites nationwide, including more than 400 in London, this could mean Sonnet 43’s American Pale Ale, available in a variety of sizes from nine gallon casks to 330ml bottles, will soon be stocked across the capital for the very first time.
Sonnet 43’s founder, North East restaurateur Mark Hird, said: “Sonnet 43’s range of award-winning beers, including American Pale Ale, has proven increasingly popular in sites across the UK and we’re delighted that it may soon be available throughout London thanks to support from Mitchells & Butlers.
“This is the latest stage in a strategic plan to expand our reach nationwide and we hope to have more similar announcements in the near future.”
Sonnet 43, named after the well-known verse by Elizabeth Barratt Browning who was born and raised at nearby Coxhoe Hall, has sold thousands of pints since its launch in 2012 and demand continues to grow.
The microbrewery’s core range - Steam Beer, India Pale Ale, American Pale Ale, Blonde Beer and Bourbon Milk Stout - is already widely available in pubs and bars across the North East and Yorkshire, including the brewery’s own brewtaps at Coxhoe, Hebburn and Chester-le-Street
It is also sold online in bottles or kegs, alongside a range of associated merchandise.
